why you should feel responsible for others ?
When Swami NITHYANANDA told that we should be repsonsible even for that with which we are not directly connected, than our natural tendency is to think : it is none of my business Let me take care of my own business and not meddle with that with which I have no dealings whatsoever. But, when you know that there is no boundary between you and others than only we can understand that anything done 10 000 kilometers may have an impact over us. I can say anything done by some one of another epoch and another country can alos have an impact on me. when some one decides to create an industry vomitting toxic smoke for 24 hours , than the pollution can easily reach anyone living around. Because of a man who invented nuclear weapon, we have a big RISK of being hijacked by a mad terrorist who can blow us all in a second by blasting the planet earth. Because, a man promoted taylorism and industrial mechanisation making man yet another extension of that "lifeless" chain, because of such a man full of greed and desire for speed invented faster and faster vehicles , roads were built after that invention to accompany his greed by taxpayer's money..We also witness government doing the dirty job for the inventor of the car by spending billions of dollors in road construction. Knowingly or unknowingly, that government has become an agent serving the interests of the capitalists who invented the car and not cater to the people by whom they are elected. Thus a flaw is woven and incorported directly in to the system of democracy, For someone's greed to be satisfied, we and our children continue to be trapped by that system he created. Taxpayers for generations to come will have to pay the greed of a man who died centuries ago and with whom we are not even related in any way ! This is just an example. Our society's engine is greed and the fuel it burns is the energy from you and me. i am not against companies but against inhuman scales in construction of working units. Atleast , law should define a level above which no industrialist should expand his production units or his backoffice service units. Everything should be done so that rural exodus and urban expansion is stopped by making youth stay where they are born and live. We should encourage small and perhaps Medium scale industries but limit drasticlaly vast industries. The rythm of taking out richness out of the earth should be directly proportional to that with which earth recreates the amount of ressources taken away from it by man. Special inspectors should observe and control If earth regains what it looses to man and determine scientifically if the balance of loss is made up by natural revival.
All this gigantic network of cement and bitumen raods and highways etc can be viewed as useful but the desire to go and live in the moon can make us think that the rocket is very useful...but than in the first place, why whould we want to go to the moon ? BECAUSE of this searching for short-term pleasure and sensual sensations in the outer world. We are used to never being satisfied and we spend all our time switching from things and searching to buy new things and getting more and more frustrated. SATISFACTION COMES FROM INTERIOR AND NOT FROM EXETERIOR. In the 40 s millions of Indians lived without cars and lived perhaps more happily than people who have cars today. THE need for car comes not from a sudden "utlity" we discovered in it overnight but because of the urban system making car an important mechanism in the complex urban machine. (Distance between living places and working places create that need and gives utility and justification for what we never fathomed as "useful" in the 40s.).
Giant economic scale of producing massive quantity of things 24 hours x 24 hours or "intensive" or "extensive" method of agriculture may be "progress" for you until you weigh the pros and cons of that idea. When you see how they damage forest and pollute the lungs of your children and grand children, perhaps spreading pollution induced diseases like asthma around us , than you may not feel as aloof as you were in the begining. When something destroys your family and your body, your thinking changes. What a pity ! It is sad we forget to overcome our ego and learn to put ourselves in other's point of view litterally in their body.
Look at this idea of modernity ; the man who had once wanted to get the maximum from his fellowman is called "modern" and a man who wants to get the maximum from the mother earth's ressources in a minimum of time without any consideration for the method's longterm consequences is called "rational, technical, intelligent, scientific and money spinner" ..when greed is in driver's seat wihtout belt of reason , than the world car will meet sooner or latter with an accident.
when a progress does not pollute the air, water and soil and does not force us to get out of dharmic path, than ok. Perhaps, a "juste mileu' or a "middle dharmic path" has to be invented and we should view the gain of a project in the light of the loss and pain it may create in the long term..When any given project has no side effects and no harmful consequences in the longterm, than ok.THE EGO OF ONE MAN SHOULD NOT BE LET DECIDE THE FATE OF A WHOLE SOCIETY.
Modern slaves have to travel long distances to go to their working places Working places and industrial units are always away from your living place. Industrialists need to concentrate people under one roof. They need to taylor education syatem along their needs. They decide with government's help (and not you) when, how and what to put inside the brains of your children ! Public schools contribute to manufacture minds to fit the need of those industrial leaders. They dictate what the government should do in public construcion works , education etc. They ask for vast scale construction works from governments so that they may maintain their business. Thus, they have sown the seed of urbanisation. This life style will only grow because of the compulsion of the situation they themselves created. This vicious cercle has to be replaced by a more cosmic-friendly cycle. Just all we have to do is to replace the pattern of greed by that of SERVICE TO OTHERS by serving people with integrity and authenticity. Any decision taken from a lack of "poornatava" or from incompletion like "greed" etc can only generate negative binding karmic consequences. We should learn to resolve our incompleteness and attain a space of completion (see youtube videos of swamiji to learn more on how to break dangerous "pavlonian patterns" and than our decisions will be strong like the building which stands on a a strong full foundation.) For example, a noble act like that of charity by Karuna can be really understood if we know the incomplete state of mind from which that act sprang . When you know Karuna suffered from a strong inferiority complex of not knowing who his parents are and that "helplessness " made him to focus on a act (act of charity) that can fulfuill the vacum created by that "incomplete feeling " of being an orphan. His need for attention from others is thus satisfied. A pattern takes birth from your childhood traumatic event and follows you like a shadow your whole life spoiling your freedom to express yourself fully in your life. Please be patient to master the art of understanding how patterns take birth and how they make a total mess of your life and how you can dissolve them when you attend "inner awakening session " with Swamiji. An incomplete state of mind will genrate actions which are simply reactions in chain to that original incomplete state of mind. So, all your actions are but reactions to that "incomplete" feeling. But, how is this "incomplete state of mind" is born ? When the feelings of powerlessness and helplessness take over you for the very first time in your life, that cause in you a desperate condition of deep frustration. And from that mental state, your pattern gets form and birth. So, the known or unknown reflex or motive or pattern behind the decision decides the quality of the action that springs from that source. A feeling of well being from a"sattvic" way of life with an invisible urge and a will to enrich mankind can only liberate a positive-energy-filled action with no karma while a survival-urge or strong rajasik or tamasik feelings like greed, anger, jealousy, attention -need, ego-obsession or over concious of our "image" and physical appearance can only give birth to reactions to that turbulent mental atmosphere and thus those reactions resulting out of "incompletion" will bind us karmically. Actions resulting out of incomplete feeling is not really actions but reactions to that incompleteness. So, by now I think you would have understood the importance of completion with ourselves and with others without which your life will only be a series of reactions to that original incompleteness. Imagine, a jeep stuck in mud. Even though it wants to move forward, only it will go deep down. So, unless you weed out that "incompleteness" or that "root pattern" you will never really progress because your mind stuck in a pattern would have no option other than reproducing the same "root pattern" and giving life to that " root pattern" than to you ! The vital prana will give life to your patterns not to you ! THE DHARMIC QUALITY OF THE REASON BEHIND AN ACTION DETRMINES WHETHER IT WILL BIND YOU OR NOT. An apparently noble act of charity can hide an inferiority complex or a lack of completion. If someone constructs a big school , if it is to serve really the society, it is ok but if it is to get huge fees and donations from people , it is "greed based and not a " dharmic work" .
So, we need to abandon old negative "root pattern" induced projects. We need to rethink our urban city 's structure and the way people and goods circulate inside those structures. Our aim is to really serve others with integrity and authenticity. we should imagine a scenario where we can live in harmony with the cosmos and not against it. We have become extensions of computer and robots and have no time to live. why to have taken birth if it is just to satisfy some foolish people 's greed ? Some spend exhausting themselves in the urban chaotic life until they retire and die just few years after. what a loss of human life in waste that those urban town planners have given as heritage for us. But because we have inherited a way of living , a type of society that we should not think it is the only way we can conceive the organisation of a society. Because we are accustomed to a type of "living together" that we should stop imagining more interesting way of organising our living place. WE SHOULD NOT BE SLAVE TO HABIT AND LET IT CRIPPLE OUR CREATIVE THINKING. We should always rethink whatever information we get from outsiide to have a better clairvoyance.
In France, they say "penser global et agir local" (think global and act local). Western world is more and more doubting about the benefits of globalsiation and thinking in terms of ecology, eco energy, sustainable development and developing local initiatives preventing "rural exodus' that makes the urban bubble grow exponentially to an inhuman scale. They want to limit the urban landscape. They tend to think and create more and more horizontal horizon and less and less verticla landscapes of skyscrapers labelleing it as "inhuman size". Their laws fix ceilings to tower heights in certain places. They have made it mandatory to plant trees in their urban planning. We too have to reduce NOIDA like towns and stop aping western countries. Concentration of people under one roof is no more viable. Dispersion of human forces on an horizontal landscape is the only solution to live happily together. Let us dig deep in our own roots of vedic culture and we need nothing from others. We should stop aping western planning of town they themselves regret because those plans have been conceived in the seventies and eighties. LET us not copy their methods of trial and error. We have to just create a think tank of vedic scholars and eminent Gurus to establish a more dharmic-oriented system. We should turn to our Sanatana dharma's Gurus and be proud of their contribution that the western world seems to quickly absorb to astonishing levels..It seems that more than 80% of Americans do some vedic inspired practice (yoga , mediation etc). Millions of Europeans and Americans turn to Swamiji and it is a pity that Indians are unaware that a "fountain of nectar" exists in the ashram of BIDADI in BANGLORE. You are lucky to live in India and not far away from that Source of Wisdom. However ancient the vedic culture may be Swaminji makes those "tatwas" directly applicable to our day-to-day life.
Our cultural richness is the envy of the whole world. Let us not be as one zen story says the donkey of a gem merchant who bore a load of precious stones but unconious of the value of what it carried. The vedic treasure may be our heritage but until we are aware of it's relevance to cure our diseases, no one can help us from exterior. That awareness should happen inside us by a sudden spark of conciousness. A new concept of space for human beings to live together happily , producing, exchanging products and goods locally can thus be concieved according to vedic principles. Imaginative restructuring of urban societies should be encouraged in architecture and space planning while giving priority to local people for jobs (thus reducing need for public or private transportation) and by reducing the size of industries to the level of small and medium scale industires giving opportunity for focus on "variety of telents " and "diversity and creativity" in producing goods and products and ensuring that anything taken away from nature should be reinjected in to it in an ecological way. if we cut 100 trees, than we should wait till 100 others grow or we should reduce our speed and quantity of daily consumption. A " NIRAHARI" who succesfully lives for many days eating nothing proves that we consume more than we need. (Swami teaches the technique of nirahara samyama in BIDADI )
Ideas may be developed and put to debate but what we should understand is that there is a link between all things in this universe and the only way is to feel responsible for anything happening in the cosmos. The sense of responsibility alone can create right conditions for the surge of a solution and the courage to act upon it. What we should do to enrich people is to give them the possibility to weed out their bad "root patterns" by replacing them by positive ones.
