India's counter to China's String of Pearls....Necklace of Diamonds.

India's counter to China's String of Pearls....Necklace of Diamonds.
We heard it for a long that China is encircling India with their String of Pearls Policy. China was establishing strategic relations with India's neighbors to ensure a feeling of fear in Indian Political establishment.
China is making Military bases,Ports,Roads,Gas Pipeline and other Infrastructures in our neighbors like Pakistan,Myanmar,Sri Lanka etc. This was a very worrisome proposition and it has been raised number of times in our main stream Media.
But it seems the time has changed now,India is countering the Chinese
Policy with it's own "Necklace Of diamond" Strategy and that is sending
shivers down the Chinese spine.
India started it with it's immediate Neighbors.
Sri Lanka: India is training several hundred Sri Lankan Naval Officers
at its Military Training schools. In addition to naval personnel, over a hundred Sri Lankan army officers are being trained at the Mhow Infantry School and other prestigious institutions.
Bhutan :Bhutan is the only country apart from India to have a land boundary dispute with China, which has never been officially demarcated. The NDA Government has started a process of re-looking it's ties with Bhutan and several strategic projects have been sanctioned and loan of multi million dollars have been provided to Bhutan. The most important outcome of this gesture is that Bhutan never allowed China to open their Diplomatic mission in Bhutan.
Nepal : Unlike Bhutan, Nepal’s foreign policy is to balance the interests of both China and India. But due to high handed behavior of previous Indian Governments (Specially Congress) this balance was going in favour of China. But it seems Modi is trying to shift the balance in India’s favour with his recent visit, with Modi announcing a $1 billion package for Nepal’s development and becoming ready to revise the 1950 treaty.
Bangladesh : Bangladesh has been an important part of India’s foreign policy since its secession from Pakistan in 1971. Even then India’s relation with Bangladesh does have its good and bad moments. The Teesta agreement is a thorn that they have had difficulty in dealing with. The issue of illegal immigrants has caused a lot of problems.
Now China is increasing its foothold in Chittagong port, which is part of the String of Pearls strategy, and according to a report by Centre for Asian Strategic Studies-India, China May be looking at building a naval base in Bangladesh. Hopefully, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bangladesh might be a step forward for the relationship between the two countries.
Afghanistan : India is investing heavily in Afghanistan. India is making Roads,Power Plants,Schools and other basic infrastructure in Afghanistan. A general perception about India is very positive in Afghanistan.
Tajikistan : I am sure very few People know that Indian air Force has its base (Farkhor Base) in Tajikistan. A fully fledged Squadron of Mig-29 is being stationed at this base.
Seychelles,Mauritius and Maldives : Seychelles,Mauritius,Sri Lanka and Maldives had joined India's naval arrangement with in a new Indian Ocean security grouping that some have called the 'IO-5'.
This has included provision of patrol boats, helicopters, training,
senior military secondments and hydrographic services to Maldives,Mauritius and Seychelles Navies. Over the last few years, India has also installed coastal radar networks in the Maldives, Mauritius and Seychelles. There have also been rumours of the possible development of an Indian security presence, in one form or another, in the Maldives and Mauritius.
Both the Seychelles and Mauritius have been pushing the 'Blue Economy' partnership with India as a route to economic development and to tap the oceanic resources. India may also enter into Blue Economy partnerships with Maldives.
>> Now lets ponder on the Look East Policy of India, which is actually worrying China.
Australia: Two-way trade has grown in value from A$5.1 billion in 2003 to A$15.2 billion in 2013. This will be trippled approx 46 Billion by 2020. Australia is all set to ink the Nuclear Pact with India which will address India's Energy concerns. A Naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal in 2007, Australia and India’s defence forces – particularly their naval forces – have increased the level of interactions.
Japan : Pact of 35 Billion dollars of Investment in India. Defence Pact with Japan where Japan is ready to export US-2 Amphibious plane and several other Arms( Japan is exporting its Arms first time since the Second World War).
Vietnam: India and Vietnam have also built strategic partnerships,
including extensive cooperation on developing nuclear power, enhancing regional security and fighting terrorism, transnational crime and drug trafficking.
Vietnam has also welcomed Indian Navy ships in their region which would enhance India and Vietnam military relations.Vietnam has also welcomed Indian support for a peaceful resolution of the territorial disputes in the South China Sea.Vietnam has neglected China's threats and invited ONGC to work on their Oil fields in South China Sea. Also Modi Govt is planning to export BrahMos missiles, Tejas and Akash air defence system to Vietnam.
Indonesia: Apart from having a Comprehensive Defence and Economic co-operation , Modi Govt is all set to export BrahMos missiles, Tejas, Akash Air defence system to Indonesia.
Taiwan: Taiwan is an arc Rival of China. Over the past decades, total Taiwanese investment in ASEAN countries has topped US$70 billion, while its investment in India is approximately US$1 billion — mostly in small and medium sectors.
In 2011, Taiwan-India trade increased more than 11 percent year-on-year to US$7.57 billion. Bilateral trade and Taiwanese investments in India are expected to expand significantly upon the conclusion of an FTA between the two countries. India, a major software exporter, and Taiwan, a leader in information technology and high-tech manufacturing, should forge joint ventures in India. In addition, Taiwan excels in the nano and biotechnology industries, and both countries should collaborate on these areas.
India’s foreign policy while it is striving to be a global superpower, something which seemed to have had taken a back seat over the past decade and a half. But since Modi has taken the Driver's seat, this Policy has been in full throttle.
Expect some strange and unexpected observations in future !!
It's Modi's Era !!
