BUSINESS IN THE USA AND INDIA ; I enriched my earlier blog with some inputs because of news that MODI attracts US business in India.

We can excel in manufacturing if only we get more confident in our products . BUSINESS IN THE USA AND INDIA are on two different levels and we should no more wait for approval from the Americans or Europeans.
OLIVE OIL is an European product and they know how to sell their product and they fool you with a media hype with scientific proofs etc but they do so with their wine (good for heart) even beef , good for protein and here in France, doctors laugh when you say you do not eat beef, these are all cultural traits from cold countries where geography shapes their eating habits more than anything. So, more than olive oil, let us make attractive our real strong and rich food heritage with sesame oil, so good for your cholesterol. Even coconut, German scientists are doing research on it for many HEALTH remedies.
WHEN we think low of our products, they know that they are more valuable than their European equivalents but they will never openly declare it; that is needed here too, economic patriotism. We Indians should add value to our local foods; IF ONLY TODDY , a alcohol form coconut tree,  were native to the USA , the Americans would have shown such a pride in drinking toddy that Indians would have long began  following that fashion with awe; Americans would have sold it in such a "modern" pack and bottling it so modernly that  that it would have beaten whisky.
So, all resides in the confidence in your products. For that you need to get rid of your inferiority complex and affirm your "indianness" with pride. Will this happen one day?
When a child is suppressed, in comparison with its peer or neighbourhood children, the child loses confidence to perform and becomes mediocre. When a nation is selectively compared with other nations, on the apparent demerits, the nation loses its confidence and will to perform.

The starting point for any nation to perform is self esteem, which was completely uprooted from our psyche, successfully by the successive aliens. Now, MODI is really showing a confident INDIA IMAGE but should also sell Americans not just invite them to sell to us what they excel in like coke, kellogs, bourbon, wheat, gm products, cars (already they have invaded India). Finally, they can complement us only by giving us armament, space and aviation technology. Let us hope they will come to INDIA, make those products and transfer know-how  in whose manufacturing we lack technology not those beverages and FAST FOOD items that will make us obese and ill like them.

The name India is derived from Indus, which originates from the Old Persian word Hinduš.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India - retrieved on 28.09.2014
”Digital Dictionaries of South Asia” என்ற நூலில் ”A Glossary of Anglo-Indian Words and Phrases” என்ற தலைப்பில் இந்தியா என்ற சொல் பல தரவுகள் மூலம் விளக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. Digital Dictionaries of South Asia,

//இந்தியா பற்றிய விளக்கங்களின் துல்லியம், சில கிரேக்க, ரோமானிய எழுத்தாளர்களின் எழுத்துக்களில் பிரதிபலிப்பதோடு, இப்போது நாடு பற்றி நமக்கு இருக்கும் கருத்தோடு இசைந்து போகிறது; இந்தக் கருத்து தான் Hwen Tsang, இன்னும் பிற சீன யாத்ரீகர்களின் உரைகளில் துலக்கிக் காட்டப் பட்டிருக்கிறது. அசோகர் காலத்திய கல்வெட்டுக்களில் (கி.மு..250) இந்தக் கருத்தை கணிசமாக ஒட்டியபடி இந்திய ராச்சியங்கள் பட்டியலிடப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன; கி.பி.11ம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த மகத்தான தஞ்சாவூர் கல்வெட்டில் தஞ்சை சோழ அரசன் வீர சோழனால் இந்தியாவின் பெரும்பகுதி கைப்பற்றப்பட்டது (கற்பனையோ நிஜமோ) தெளிவுபடுத்தப்பட்டிருப்பதோடு, அதிலும் இதே முறை தான் பின் பற்றப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. கல்யாணின் சாளுக்கிய வம்சத்தவர், 11ம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த ஒரு செப்புப் பட்டயத்தில், ”ஹிமாலயம் முதல் பாலம் வரை” என்ற ஒரு சொற்றொடர் வருகிறது (Ind. Antiq. i. 81) அதாவது ராமரின் பாலம் என்னும் நமது வரைபடங்களில் காணப்படும் Adam's Bridge. இதன் கீழே அதே காலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த முகம்மதிய விளக்கங்களிலும் இந்தப் பெயர் காணப்படும். விஜயநகரப் பேரரசைச் சேர்ந்த ஹிந்து அரசர்களின் (14ம் நூற்றாண்டு முதல்) கல்வெட்டுக்களிலும் இந்தியாவை இது போன்ற விளக்கங்கள் மூலம் குறிக்கிறார்கள்.
//கி.மு486இல் , “டேரியஸ் என்ற மன்னன் கூறுகிறான்: Ormazdஇன் கருணையால் நான் பாரசீகம் உட்பட இவை தாம் நான் கைப்பற்றிய நாடுகள். நான் என் அதிகாரத்தை அவற்றின் மீது நிறுவி இருக்கிறேன். அவர்கள் எனக்கு கப்பம் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள். நான் அவர்களிடம் கூறியதை அவர்கள் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் என் சட்டத்துக்கு கீழ்படிகிறார்கள். இந்தியா என்ற நிலப்பரப்பை ஒரே நாடாக எப்படி உலகம் தொன்றுதொட்டே கருதி வந்ததோ அது போலவே தென்னகத்துச் சோழனும் வடநாட்டு அசோகனும் மத்திய இந்தியாவின் சாளுக்கியனும் பார்த்துவந்ததை இந்த நூல் மேற்கோள் காட்டியுள்ளது. வெளிநாட்டவன் வைத்த பெயர் இந்தியா என்று கொக்கரிக்கும் தமிழ் வியாபாரிகள் வீர சோழனை வந்தேரி என்று திட்டாமல் விட்டால் சரி தான். பெளத்தமே கதி என்று சொல்லி அடிப்படை பெளத்தம் தெரியாமல் ஹிந்துக்களை மதமாற அழைக்கும் பகுத்தறிவுவாதிகள், உலகத்திலேயே முதன்முறையாக அரசு எந்திரத்தை பயன்படுத்தி மதம்மாற்றம் செய்த ’பெளத்த’ மன்னன் அசோகனின் ஆதாரத்தையாவது நம்புவார்களா?
Ashoka

//கி.மு.. 440 - “இந்தியாவுக்கு கிழக்கே முழுமையாக மணலாக ஒரு பிரதேசம் விளங்குகிறது. ஆசியாவில் வசிக்கும் அனைத்து பேர்களிலும், அவர்களைப் பற்றித் தெரிந்த வரையில், இந்தியர்கள் தாம் கிழக்குக்கும், உதயசூரியனுக்கும் மிக நெருக்கமாக வசிக்கிறார்கள்.” Herodotus, iii. c. 98 (Rawlinson) //
//கி.மு. 300 - இந்தியா அப்போது (H (TOI/NUN*) INDIKH\) வரைபடத்தில் நான்கு பக்கம் கொண்டதாக இருக்கிறது, கிழக்கு நோக்கி ஒன்றும், தெற்கு நோக்கி ஒன்றும், பெரிய கடல் அதைச் சூழ்ந்தும்; வட துருவத்தை நோக்கிய பகுதி Hēmōdus என்ற மலைச் சங்கிலியால் Scythia முதல் பிரிக்கப் பட்டிருக்கிறது, அங்கே Sakai என்று அழைக்கப்படும் Scythianகள் பூர்வகுடிகள் வசிக்கிறார்கள்; நான்காவது பக்கமான மேற்கு நோக்கிய முகத்தில், இண்டஸ் எல்லைக்கோடாக இருக்கிறது, இது தான் நீல நதிக்குப் பிறகு மிகப் பெரிய அல்லது அனைத்து நதிகளிலும் பெரியதாக இருக்கிறது.” - Megasthenes in Diodorus, ii. 35. (ம்யூலரின் Fragm. His. Graec., ii. 402)//
 indimapl
//c. 590 - ஹிந்த் நிலத்தைப் பொறுத்த மட்டில் இது கிழக்கே பாரசீக கடலாலும், (அதாவது இந்தையக் கடல்) மேற்க்கிலும், தெற்கிலும், இஸ்லாத்தின் நாடுகளாலும், வடக்கே சீனப் பேரரசாலும் சூழப்பட்டிருக்கிறது..... இந்த ஹிந்த் நிலத்தின் நீளம் Mokraan நாட்டு அரசிலிருந்து, Mansoora நாடு, Bodha, சிந்த் முழுக்கவிருந்தும் Kannuj வரை நீண்டும், பிறகு Tobbat (TIBET) வரையும், சுமார் 4 மாதங்கள், அதன் அகலம் இந்தியக் கடலிலிருந்து Kannuj நாடு வரை சுமார் 3 மாதங்கள்”: Istakhri, pp.6ம் 11ம்.//
Digital Dictionaries of South Asia.
//c.650. - "Tien-chu (இந்தியா) என்ற பெயர் பல்வேறு, குழம்பிய நிலைகளைக் கடந்து வந்திருக்கிறது......... பண்டைய காலங்களில் அவர்கள் Shin-tu என்று அழைத்தார்கள் ஆனால் சில எழுத்தாளர்களோ, இதை Hien-teou என்று அழைத்தார்கள். இதன் உண்மையான உச்சரிப்பின் படி பார்த்தால் இதை In-tu என்று தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும்” - Pèl, Bouddh, i i, 57ல் ஹுவான் சுவாங்.//

JAYA IN PRISON. IS IT JUSTICE ?

The judge who delivered the arrest warrant on J jaya is a Sonia nominated Christian whose judgement favours corrupt KARUNANIDHI and company who are close friends of Sonia..When incomparably more corrupt people in DMK are drinking their tea in their drawing room with no Judge going after them, why come this "petty corruption affair in crores not in laks of crores " being so severely punished ,,,??? something fishy. I would not doubt if the same judge shows the same fierceness to the case of 2g 200 000 crores  scam by kani , raja , karuna and DMK ALI BABA AND 40 THEIVES.

when I eat in America, I get extremely sick. When I eat those same foods in Bolivia, I feel great.

I can eat all the food and I feel awesome!

In America I was always told that if I travel to another country the food and water will make me sick. We have always heard that developing countries are so dirty and the water is so bad that Americans cannot handle it at all. So, the week before our trip to Bolivia, I started preparing our bodies. Hubby and I took probiotics and all 6 of us put Diatomaceous Earth in our smoothies every day. Since 3 of us cannot have gluten or dairy, I loaded our backpacks full of granola bars, fruit snacks, and a few other things to survive on until we figured out the food situation. I assumed that I would not be able to speak the language well enough to tell people “no flour or milk” so I wanted to be prepared. On the plus side, I joked that the last few pounds I wanted to lose would quickly come off when I got to Bolivia. :)

This is a fancy restaurant that we ate at in LaPaz. We made certain they spoke English so we could know for sure what we were eating.

When we arrived in LaPaz, I did not eat unless I could be positive there was no milk or flour in the food. It is amazing how frozen in fear I am about ordering food because of the nonstop worry of getting sick. A mom of 4 just has no time for constant health problems. When we arrived in Ixiamas, I discovered that bread is a cheap staple (1 Boliviano for 2 pieces of bread the size of large dinner rolls). Also, since the bread was made with only butter, lard, and flour -no milk! – I decided to try it. It tasted good and I felt fine. After this surprising success, I tried the milk from a friend’s cow. No symptoms! I could not believe it! It seemed I was able to eat everything here! The only time I have gotten sick is when I ate at a burger chain restaurant and a store that served previously-frozen empanadas. Later a friend told us those places served “fast food”. I do notice that if I consume too much milk I will get a little congested. I try to space the dairy consumption out so that I only have dairy every other day.

I have not had one headache while in Ixiamas, while in the States I usually had one every two weeks. I have not gone to bed all stopped up or woken up by a sneezing attack. When I eat flour, my tummy does not feel horrible and bloated. In the States, I typically got sick after eating out. No matter how fervently the restaurants promised they did not have milk or flour in their foods, I always seemed to spend the next day sitting on the couch feeling horrible and trying to get well.

Our 2nd (and last) fancy restaurant in Bolivia. This was in Rurrenabaque.

Let me be clear. In America, I could not have any gluten or dairy. Even when I was extremely strict with the foods that I ate, I still became sick. I could not eat trace amounts of dairy without experiencing flu-like symptoms for 3 days. And if I had flour, I would have intense stomach cramps for at least a day.

So how is this possible? Why did I spend so much of my life sick in the States since my childhood? How is it that I am well in Bolivia?

This is the way butter is sold.

I think I know the answer. There are little to no chemicals used in food production here. Vegetables and fruits are picked from the garden and go straight to the market. After the cow is milked, the milk is poured into a rinse- out soda bottle and sold. We buy the food and then we eat it – that’s all. There are no planes spraying chemicals and no huge factories manipulating food with additives. There are no FDA regulations, no Monsanto, and no companies enforcing rules for how things must be prepared, processed and packaged. And the water is clean; it comes straight from a spring in the mountain. It is not treated with added fluoride or any other chemicals “to make sure we are healthy.”

I am making donuts with my cooking class.

And Ixiamas is FAR from sanitary. Nobody boils water before using it. No one runs around washing their hands or using hand sanitizer before serving each meal. The bathrooms that most people use are nothing more than a hole in the ground. Everyone deals with free-roaming farm animals wandering through their homes, stores and restaurants. The roads are covered in dirt and when a motorcycle drives by, dirt flies everywhere.

In my cooking class we made pollo (chicken).

I believe all the rules and regulations in the States surrounding food production were destroying my body. Almost everything made me sick. The chemicals were affecting my brain as well as my organs. Two of our children had almost as many problems as I did and I felt hopelessly sure that their issues would only continue to worsen as mine did. In America, I felt like I could never trust restaurants or packaged foods. When I couldn’t pronounce the ingredients on the side of the box, I knew I was in trouble.

I have believed for a long time that the chemicals were destroying me. I felt helpless to find an answer. Affording the good stuff was killing our budget (and I wasn’t sure I could trust the health food stores anyway). The only solution I could think of was to grow my own food. But then I even wondered if the air, soil, and water would be free enough from chemicals for me to ever be well.

Vanilla and chocolate cakes!

I realize that some people eat whatever they want in the States and do not get sick. But I know so many people that feel awful like I did. And then there are the many illnesses that people have that can be treated with healthy food: America is rampant with cancer, diabetes, acne, ADD, ADHD, arthritis, autism, and asthma (wow that’s a lot of ‘A’ words).

For our family, being able to eat without throwing up, not spending hours in the bathroom, not needing medicine, rarely getting sick, and not feeling crazy and out of control are worth everything to us! We are more than aware that we are not prolonging our life by eating this way and we are not health food nuts. We just want to feel well!

With excitement I will say it again……when I eat in America, I get extremely sick. When I eat those same foods in Bolivia, I feel great. My family feels awesome too. I don’t know what else to think other than unlike America, there are no chemicals, additives, or genetically modified foods here. You may think the labels “organic” and “all natural” in the fancy stores means the food is healthy and chemical-free, but I do not believe it. I do not believe our family can escape sickness when we eat in America.

I am eating a donut with chocolate icing! DELICIOSO!

Now when I travel back to America that will be the place that I lose weight because I won’t be able to eat anything, while Bolivia will be the place I feel well!A special thanks to my friend Stephanie Chou for editing this post for me. I appreciate you!

Hindu texts not to blame for India’s sanitation crisis by Sahana Singh

Hindu texts not to blame for India’s sanitation crisis

Sahana Singh |

Under British rule, the maintenance of reservoirs and rainwater harvesting structures was perceived as an unnecessary expense and discontinued. Gradually, water tanks fell into disuse. As people migrated to cities in search of education and jobs, indigenous knowledge of water management and sanitation disappeared completely.

The filthy image of India littered with faeces has become well-established in global opinion. Recent reports in The New York Times and The Economist have raised further concern with the connection between poor sanitation and malnutrition in India. Unfortunately, an impression is also being conveyed that ancient Hindu scriptures are responsible for the problem of open defecation in India today. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

There is no denying that India is struggling with the practice of open defecation but the reason for that does not lie in Hindu texts. In fact the solution for the crisis lies in those very texts.

What the ancient Vedas, Manusmriti, Kamasutra (yes, the Kamasutra is not merely about sex) highlight is that distance should be maintained between faeces and human habitation. Distance. In other words, no mixing, no contact between human wastes and the places where people live, eat and sleep. Also, it is specifically mentioned that faeces and urine should not be allowed to come in contact with water bodies. Even in agriculture, the use of raw human waste is expressly prohibited. It has to be borne in mind that this was centuries before the germ theory of disease was formulated in Europe. Which means, long before Europeans realised that diseases could be transmitted by pathogens from feces, Hindu texts had precluded this from happening.

In the distant past, when populations were low, people would walk long distances away from homes, away from rivers or wells, defecate into pits, cover them with soil and leave them to get absorbed into soil. They would wash their hands thoroughly with cleaning agents which were naturally available.

In the years before British colonisation, India was well-endowed with lakes, tanks and water harvesting structures. Kings financed the maintenance of the water structures while citizens contributed labour. Since people took a personal interest in their water resources, there was a collective sense of responsibility to safeguard them.

The problem arose when populations grew. There were fewer “far-off” places to defecate because where the boundaries of one village ended, another started. One might be defecating far away from one’s home but that place could be close to another’s home or water source! Knowledge about covering up the faeces properly was not transmitted correctly. Poverty made it harder for families to pay much attention to hygiene. Things were not helped when the British took over and destroyed old patterns of living.

Meanwhile, the flush toilet arrived in cities from Europe and this became the cause of even more pollution for the simple reason that its design principle was based on pollution. It envisaged the mixing of clean water with faeces and disposing it somewhere (usually rivers or lakes).

The hallowed Hindu principle of not mixing waste with clean water was discarded and this let loose a plethora of diseases. Had those principles been researched and developed scientifically into a code of best practices, today India could have been full of eco-friendly toilets that produced excellent fertiliser (perhaps bio-energy too) while its rivers, lakes and wells could have been the cleanest in the world. There would have been no need for the country to import fertilisers at nearly $700 per tonne.

Instead, flush toilets became popular everywhere and the water (sewage) carrying away the waste from homes was dumped into rivers and lakes. Once sewage is generated, there is a need for sewage treatment plants with a whole range of processes to separate the water from the wastes.

Think about it: mixing clean water with faeces just to transport it and then using a whole lot of energy, chemicals and money to separate solids from water. Does this sound intelligent? It takes just one particle of waste to contaminate hundreds of litres of water. And yet, this practice has become the cornerstone of modern sewage treatment.

The Hindus who wrote the ancient texts were not idiots. Far from it, they need to be commended for their wisdom. Any sanitation professional will admit that flush toilets are big mistakes but there is no choice. It is hard to uproot hardware that has been installed everywhere. So the thinking today is – the system might be wrong but let us make it work as efficiently as we can.

The British did not invest in sewage treatment for India other than in some areas where they lived. When India became independent, its politicians had no idea about how big the sanitation problem would become one day. It was thought that the rivers and lakes with their water in plenty would dilute the concentrations of bacteria coming from sewage. Until the 1970s, the dilution was actually quite high and major rivers such as the Ganga remained clean even with all the dirt flowing into it.

But this could not last forever as populations grew uncontrollably. The old habit of defecating in the fields continued in villages with people having no idea that the principle of not letting waste contaminate water sources was being violated to the very core.

The disinformation campaign about the nexus between Hinduism and poor hygiene needs to be busted. Verse after verse in Hindu scriptures expound on the link between cleanliness and godliness.

What the country needs to do today is to reclaim the knowledge in ancient Hindu texts which taught humans to take care of their environment, and to keep dirt and waste away from water bodies. Indians need to make up for lost time and build toilets that do not send human wastes to water.

CURBING ROAD ACCIDENTS IN INDIA.

In France, car license is a twelve point system, and for every bad behaviour costs one point and the driver looses his license after that , he has to begin again the whole process.
SECONDLY, a standard format of a 100% ROAD SHOULD BE VOTED IN the parliament and say 15% of each side of the lane should be allotted to pavement and the remaining 70% should go to car, motorcycles etc; what I am telling is anywhere in India a standard format should be implemented and anybody should question the national or the state authority if the road and pavement do not fit that format before the judge.  This should be followed by clearing all pedestrian pavements from shop encroachers so that people can really use pavements and don't descend on streets causing accidents.
Thirdly, computerization SHOULD ALLOW POLICE TO type in a small portable computer details of those who are caught in a radar camera flash red-handed in breaching the high way code and people should pay directly to a national authority not to the policeman only by computer to prevent bribes. This is how things are done in France and the accidents have drastically fallen and in a year we have less than 10000 accidents for a 70 crore population.

ENSURE AIR and WATER PURITY

We can make and let others make in INDIA whatever we want so that this policy can reduce our "imports" and thereby nipping in the bud the "corruption by commission à la manmohan singh" from whom we import and most importantly paving way for tremendous job creations. but please vote appropriate laws as in FRANCE TO ENSURE AIR and WATER PURITY by putting the responsibility on MAYORS who can be sued if they fail in keeping water, air and land clean.
We can always try inspirations and ideas wherever it may come if only they can be a plus point for our countrymen.
Now a new law in FRANCE defines pollution surveillance inside government public buildings such as schools ensuring best quality of air for children. THEY CAN go on through intense industrialisation because their government has fixed a legal framework inside which the industries should function. No mayor can be cool and not construct a "unit" to recycle and treat all wastes dumped by people AND industries  in his town.http://www.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/Surveillance-de-la-qualite-de-l,12027.html

REVERSING THE GAZE: LET US LIVE OUR LIFE THROUGH OUR CULTURAL LENS NOT THROUGH SOMEBODY'S LENS; let us be original not a copy.

As Hindus, we are the last remaining carriers of our past wisdom traditions, yet we see our people living a colonized lifestyle, by seeking approval from their Western counterparts for whatever it is we do- be it with regards to our practices or our beliefs.
Until now, we have been seeing ourselves from the eyes of Westerners and modifying

our lifestyle accordingly to become « someone else » and « live someone 's life renouncing our unique perhaps the only chance to live our own life with our own will and wish », it is time to reverse the gaze by looking at ourselves and the rest of the world from a dhārmika lens and through the eyes of our ancient RISHIS who composed the Vedas. However, in order to do that, we first need to understand our dhārmika categories well, and gain a better understanding of our culture and associated traditional models and as TIROUVALUVAR said not only we should master our culture intellectually but also apply it to each and every second of our life and live our culture not only intellectually but also emotionally and socially.

Life is like reading, without understanding do not venture into it.

Assimilation of Pūjya Swāmiji's teachings submitted by a sādhaka. Sharing it with our group here
____________________________
As an young fella, I was told by all elders around, whatever you read, try to understand, do not just read.
Life is like reading, without understanding do not venture into it. Yes, you have been brought into it without your choice as a child. But we have grown now, as we read this, my humble submission is let us start understanding. The understanding has to begin with me, the individual, world, what we call jagat and the powers that be.
When you read a book, you are always curious what it has finally to convey, what is the end of the story. So I begin here with the promise from my Guru, when you really understand the book called 'life' it has a happy ending in store.
Why I bring in Guru here because Life is too complex a book to be read by yourself, more so to understand by yourself. You need the guide of a guru. I was fortunate to get the guidance of my Guru from early days.
Whereas all means of knowledge - perception, inference, presumption, illustration and negation - are all handled by the knower, understanding of life begins with the knowledge of the knower, what they call self-knowledge and the means has to be different. The teaching tradition introduces an independent means of knowledge called vedanta pramana. My Guru Swami Dayananda Saraswati is from the tradition and the teacher of Vedanta.
As I mentioned earlier the happy ending is briefly mentioned from the teachings to begin with and takes you further. Wish you happy reading of 'Life'.
From the teachings of Swami Dayananda Saraswati of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam:
Advaita, non-dual whole is the truth learnt by the study of Vedanta. The study of vedanta is not just an academic study. The study is meant for a mumukshu, moktum icchuh mumukshu, one who has initially discovered an urge to break-free from a sense of limitation, and then with the grace of the guru, live a life of dharma, earn the grace of a mind with great integrity, earn the grace of powers that be, assiduously cultivate the discriminative capability to sort out life and develop a commitment to understand it thoroughly and break-free from ignorance of life.
The Knowledge of Advaita or non-duality essentially frees the human being from perceived alienation from the whole. The whole is limitless and undivided and hence not made up of parts. The whole ‘is’ and evident. The ‘I’ in every one of us, living beings is self-evident. Everything else including my body, mind, senses, etc are evident to me, the self. The study of non-duality results in understanding ‘I’ am the undivided self-evident whole.
When we say whole, it appears inanimate, and the perceived alienation does not disturb me. But we sit up when I say the next person I am alienated from, that sounds true. Why go that far, our own body-mind-sense complex is the next person, we are not sure of this person either and the alienation starts from there and extends to the whole world known and unknown.
So the ‘bhaya hetu,’ the reason for fear - of alienation from the whole leading to insecurity, lack of fulfillment, mortality - is there until we understand advaita. So the study of Vedanta leading to knowledge of self as Advaita or non-dual whole, a whole which does not suffer a second, is to understand this by studying with the help of aGuru. Words essentially have been coined to deal with relative reality dealing in the means of knowledge like perception, inference, presumption, examples of existence and non-existence. The words used by these means of knowledge have objects of knowledge other than the knower. For example, the knower of the pot is different from the pot. Obviously, the means of knowledge for which the object of knowledge is the knower himself/ herself is a separate means of knowledge and that is Vedantapramana. In this pramana, the same words and other words are handled by the Gurucarefully keeping the relative empirical meaning of the words in the mindset of the student suspended, and lead him to the Vision of the self which is the Whole. Theguru himself has received this knowledge from his Guru through the sampradaya(teaching tradition) what they call, karna parampara, listening tradition. Every other means of knowledge is handled by the knower, whereas this parampara, teaching tradition uses the words as mirror for the knower to see his true self and hence it is an independent pramana – means of knowledge.
You, the being is the Whole – isness - the invariable satyam by its sheer presence, throws light on all thought frames bringing alive a thing of the past, thus so called time comes into being, a thing in a different place, thus so called space comes into being, image of horse different from image of cow, thus bringing alive a so called object, the object itself is nothing but a name, word and form, meaning associated, which can be further broken down to parts, names, words and meanings, stitched together by a niyati, order, which can be bifurcated into physiological order, biological order, psychological order, order of karma, epistemological order – order of knowledge forms - so on and so forth. The orders themselves trace their origin to the being 'isness' which by the being’s invariable presence lends cetanam, substance to every step in an order, and connectivity between the steps, referred assutratma, source of 'all-knowledge' that strings together the order of orders. The orders on display are the so-called objects and activities.
Pardon me for using the word so-called repeatedly, because the truth is only the 'isness', everything else is transitory, characterised by the word mithya in the sastra, meaning relative reality, anirvacaniiyam means nothing categorical, potness cannot be an attribute of pot; potness you do not see in clay either. But the pot is useful, available for transaction, vyavahara, as just name and form, nama-rupa, mithya. This example is given only to open up your mind to the order of reality that governs all transactions, life of vyavahara. In fact vyavahara is what we all do in our daily life without enquiring into its reality. Hence, the being 'isness' gives life to the world and the world itself is nothing but the same 'isness' as 'all-knowledge', a permutation and combination of all orders referred to in the sastra as Ishvara, giving an ever-changing jagat, mithya jagat, world of objects and activities. So the truth of the mithya jagat is satyam, 'isness', caitanyam 'all-knowledge' and limitless because 'isness' is never not there,sat-cit-ananta(aananda). So call it matter-energy, substances and activities, all form part of a seamless undivided whole.
The understanding of this seamless whole instantly eliminates alienation because there is no reason for fear, there is nothing other than me, the self-evident whole - isness, all-knowledge, always there - and the second thing being mithya, useful and available for transaction.
Then the question is what are we striving for all these years. We are striving alright but without understanding the whole. The famous saying of my guru is we do not have the whole view, the view of the whole is whole view. Unless we have the whole view, the parts do not fall in place. Okay, so what? not every one has the knowledge of the whole. But can you stop looking for it? think over, you do not have a choice, a human being cannot rest without understanding the whole - me, the world and the powers that be.

Amukkira kizhangin arputha balangal!

LOSS OF POWER OF THINKING, LOGIC, AND RATIONALITY AMONG PRESENT DAY TAMILS

LOSS OF POWER OF THINKING, LOGIC, AND RATIONALITY AMONG PRESENT DAY TAMILS

The ancient Indians had very good ways of deriving and developing knowledge. The ar...t of thinking and derivation of knowledge and rationalising was in a very advanced state, among the ancient Indians. If the Greeks had only the three stepped approach to Logic, we Indians had six steps. A further step was added by MeykaNdAr in the 13th century. That is why there was so much of material on knowledge - of every available branch. We had the 18 Vidya Sthaanaas, 64 Arts and crafts, 96 types of saastras.
In the composition of poetry, we had so many combinations. We had 96 different types of Prabandha. The Vidya Sthaanaas alone comprised of ever so many branches of knowledge and books.
All this, we could acheive by asking the right type of questions and different approaches in thinking. Our knowledge spread over the world and modified the thinking of other nations.
But then so much is lost now. Its because of restricted single-channel thinking that we have been brain-washed into.
Even the so-called rationalists and atheists have this single-tract thinking. Patterns and patterns of the same type are laid down, over and over again, in their minds. So much so, that whatever fictitious idea attracts their fancy is beleived in staunchly.

India’s Economic Might Rests in its Villages by Rahul Goswami

India’s Economic Might Rests in its Villages

We have long had our socio-economic guides and for just as long have respected and listened to their interpreters and practitioners, those whom our era call 'green activists'. May their tribe increase!
We have long had our socio-economic guides and for just as long have respected and listened to their interpreters and practitioners, those whom our era call ‘green activists’. May their tribe increase!
There was a time, a longish period of our history, during which those who could have been termed a Bharatiya ‘bourgeoisie’ (had Marxists existed then) in our society did not reach dominant levels of political and economic strength. The consequence was that capitalism did not become, during this period, the primary economic system. “For these reasons,” wrote KS Shelvankar in ‘The Problem of India’ (1940), “the invincible toughness of the village and the political impotence of the bourgeoisie, the evolution of Indian economy was inhibited and the spontaneous emergence of a capitalist order was rendered impossible.”
The point of interest in Shelvankar’s penetrating observations of pre-British India is not the inhibition of economy but the strength of the village. The industrial and mercantile classes of our towns could not and did not bring under their orbit the ‘gramas’ because of what he called the almost impregnable balanced economies of our self-sufficient villages. This quality was, to condense drastically a lengthy tale, both the strength of the ‘gramas’ in Bharat and a constraint to what in our era is called ‘human development’. But even this constraint (which Dr BR Ambedkar complained about famously) must be seen against the autarchic characteristic of our villages, in which nonetheless considerable activity occurred with social festivals, stagecraft and theatre, religious gatherings, and other forms of collective activity.
The mystic revolutions fostered by Shankaracharya and Chaitanya, by Ramanuja, Nanak and Kabir, took place against the stable background of the self-sufficient village and its social economy, which successfully survived political storms and war. But colonial rule set about to alter that fabric and the essentially extractive nature of colonial occupation was gradually able to upset the ancient equilibrium of the ‘gramas’, for the British evolved in India a gigantic administrative apparatus which eventually ensnared every village and hamlet. And that has been the administrative model which, with minor modifications and the fragile varnish of ‘modernity’, independent India adopted and continues to steer.
I have provided this little précis in order to help the reader gauge the depth of and the sincerity of those who more recently have claimed to invent an economics for India. Grama Bharat and dynastic Bharat – Chalukyas, Cholas and Guptas, Hoysalas, Kakatiyas and Kushans, the Magadhas, Marathas and Mauryas, or the Mughals and the Satvahanas – did not have a single economics for the Indias and the Bharats they ruled (the Arthashastra was not a text as commonly read or as commonly available as it tends to be assumed to have been). But the macro-economists of our era, as inadequately schooled in history as they are in culture, are unaware of this long-lived consequence of the self-sufficiency of the village.
Instead, they prefer to be accomplices of the project to dismantle the village as the economic unit and so put an end to what the globalists consider is a troublesome history. The autarchy that was balanced – at times well, at other times ill – by the administrations of all these dynasties and smaller satraps, for so long, began to slip, perhaps when the first struggles for our independence were waged in the mid-19th century (1857 being one signal event amongst several) and perhaps earlier when the ‘chatuspathis’ and ‘vidyalayas’ began giving way to ‘modern’ education. But if there was a Wood’s Education Dispatch of 1854 there also was a Deccan Education Society established by Tilak and Agarkar, an outstanding example of educational institutions started by nationalist Indians.
Had we the clarity and honesty to recognise a homespun economics that continues to suit ‘grama’ Bharat as much as it does the labour and informal sector workers in our 4,041 statutory towns (large cities included) and 3,894 census towns, we would then have macro-economists who would value the protection of ‘prakruti’ as much as they may value the contribution of our many thousands of handicraft forms and many lakhs of artisans, for there is no reason why the economics of self-sufficiency cannot continue to be practiced and encouraged.
From such a point of view, such a macro-economics for Bharat will include – to a far more intimate and constructive degree than 68 years of Independence have hitherto proven – the schools in our 640,930 villages and enlist as practicing local economists our 2,645,880 panchayat members (a good number of them women, who care about how many children go to school). There is good reason to dispel the macro-economic fog (much of it generated by the universities of the West, and mainly the USA, and unfortunately for us, consumed uncritically by our countrymen and women who continue to go there to study and find lucrative jobs, often with the World Bank and similar organisations) that grew thicker during the ten years of UPA misrule.
Our panchayats, after all, manage between them 159,591,854 hectares of land that are planted with crops that help feed Bharat (rotis and kheer, idlis and biscuits) thanks to the labours of our ‘kisan’ households which care for these crops in 138,348,461 farm holdings. The socio-economic self-sufficiencies that supported early dynasties as well as later ones (but which could not bear colonial plundering) allow many economies to thrive in ‘grama’ Bharat as well as urban India. We have many economies, not one welded to the mechanistic and destructive globalised economy, and these are all dear to us. And the health of these economies – which lie beyond the calculations of poverty lines and direct benefit transfers – is best tended to by those who have been unfairly and disparagingly referred to as ‘green activists’ and as ‘green lobbies’.
“Trees have five sorts of kindness that are their daily sacrifice,” a passage in the Varaha Purana has explained. “To families they give fuel, to passersby they give shade and a resting place, to birds they give a home, to the sick they give medicines with their leaves, roots and bark.” We have long had our socio-economic guides and for just as long have respected and listened to their interpreters and practitioners, those whom our era call ‘green activists’. May their tribe increase!

How to Clean Your Camera Sensor in 3 Easy Steps

How to Clean Your Camera Sensor in 3 Easy Steps

A Post By: Alex Morrison

There is really nothing more frustrating for photographers than a camera sensor that is full of dust and specks. Dust on the sensor happens, it’s just a fact of digital photographic life. If you’re an outdoor photographer with a zoom lens, or one who changes lenses in the field, dust and particles will find a way onto your sensor on an almost regular basis. But even studio photographers experience the distress of a dirty sensor.

The world’s dirtiest camera sensor. Yuck.

A few weeks ago I was on a mountain photo tour, and was constantly changing lenses in the windy and dusty alpine weather. This is a photo taken to show you my sensor dust. All those black specks are fragments of airborne stuff that either gets sucked into your sensor when you use a zoom lens, or when you change your lens outdoors. The image above is the result.

There’s not too much you can do about it if you’re out on a shoot, other than know that there will be many hours spent on your computer editing out those miserable spots from your otherwise beautiful photos. However, you needn’t stress once you get back to your home base, where you can easily take care of cleaning the sensor and removing the smudges in three easy steps.
Is Your Sensor Dirty?

Check to make sure your sensor needs cleaning. It’s quite possible that it does, but you may not know it. If you shoot wide open, or at larger apertures (smaller f-stop number, such as f/2.8) you may not really see any sensor gunk on your images unless you view them at 100% on your monitor. But one day you’ll want, or need, to set your aperture to f/8, or f/16; then sensor dust will become visible, almost as if from nowhere, to torment you, frame by frame.

To see if you have sensor dust right now, so you won’t be surprised when you’re out in the field shooting, stop down to the smallest aperture on your lens (the largest f-stop number, f/32 for example) and take a photo of a white or light colored wall. What I do then, is open the image in Photoshop and click on Auto Tone (under the Images Menu item). Horrors! Do you see it? Hopefully your sensor dust won’t look as bad as mine, above. But if you see the dreaded black specs, read on.
Step 1) Using the Auto Clean Function

Many newer DSLRs have a special function for automatically cleaning the sensor. Look for it in the Tools menu on your camera. When you use this tool, the camera gives the sensor a series of micro-vibrations that “shake” the dust loose, in theory anyway. You may have to repeat this process several times. But with some patience, and providing your sensor is not as bad as the example in my image above, you’ll be relatively free of most of your sensor dirt in a few minutes.

If you don’t have this feature on your camera, don’t worry, there is a way to manually clean your sensor. Sooner or later, even those photographers with auto-clean cameras will have to wash their sensors using this manual method, Step 2 below.
Step 2) Using Sensor Swabs and Eclipse Fluid

Sensor swabs are specially designed cleaning pads for camera sensors. Used with a few drops of Eclipse cleaning fluid they will wipe you sensor clean. Think of it as a tiny Swiffer for your sensor. You can get the swabs in exactly the right size for your sensor, so one swipe in each direction could be all you need.

The procedure is easy. You’ll simply put 2 drops of the fluid on a pad, and then gently wide the swab across your sensor ONCE, ONE WAY. Then change directions and swipe the other way. Throw that swab away. If you need to repeat the process, use a new swab.
Step 3) Power up, Mirror Up

To use the swabs you’ll need to keep your mirror up to give you access to your sensor. This is the tricky part – you don’t want your mirror to come down while the swab is still inside your camera.

If you don’t have a setting for Lock Mirror Up for Cleaning, make sure your battery is fully charged, and set your camera exposure on Bulb. The Bulb setting will allow you to keep the mirror up until you release the shutter (use a locking shutter release to hold it not your finger). This way you can access the sensor, and do the quick sensor two-step, swipe left, swipe right.

Check your results: take another shot at the same stopped down aperture and take a look at the difference.

Image of sensor dust after using Sensor Swabs. The main culprits are gone.

There are still three spots but all the big blobs, and large dust particles are gone. Depending on your preferences, you may be happy with this knowing that it’s a few easy clicks of the clone tool to remove these small faint marks. Or you may want to give the sensor another round of swabbing. Either way the sensor is super clean compared to the initial test image.

Cleaning your sensor is not difficult, you do need to be careful but it’s very worth the effort. Your photographs will love you for it.

I’d love to see your sensor dust horror stories – post your before and after cleaning shots here.

Editor’s note of warning: if you are terrified of damaging your sensor (it is delicate) you can usually find a local camera store that offers this service. You will pay a lot more for it than doing it yourself, but if they damage it, they have to replace it for you. The camera that is! If you damage your sensor there is no going back. So do follow the directions exactly, and do be cautious. Perform this procedure in as dust-free, windless room as possible. And remember to NEVER, EVER touch your sensor with your fingers. The oil from your fingers will do more damage and is much harder to remove (i.e. you’ll likely be sending it to the manufacturer to get that off).

7 Tips to Help Improve Your Seascape Photos by Controlling the Waves

7 Tips to Help Improve Your Seascape Photos by Controlling the Waves

A Post By: Jim Hamel

When photographing outdoors, you generally take the world as you find it, and you have very little control over the elements. You cannot control the weather. The terrain is a given. You certainly cannot control the skies or the clouds.

But when photographing seascapes there is one thing you can control, and that is the waves. At least, you can control the appearance of the waves. This is a fundamental difference between landscapes and seascapes.

In landscapes you have generally static ground and foreground elements, while in seascapes you are dealing with a fluid substance that is in constant motion. If you just treat a seascape as a landscape, you will get an ordinary photo, but with some attention to the waves you can get extraordinary pictures.

You can actually control the appearance of the waves in order to add just the right mood and interesting effects to your photos. It is actually very simple to do; it’s all about controlling your shutter speed. In general, the slower the shutter speed, the more calm and serene the water will appear, while a very fast shutter speed implies power and action.

In this article, I will walk you through some shutter speed ranges that you might try in your own seascape photography next time you are at the coast. So here are some tips to help you take better seascape photos:
#1 Minimal Gear Needed

To photograph moving water successfully at various speeds, you will not need much in the way of extra gear. Other than a camera, a tripod, and perhaps a remote shutter release, the only necessity is a neutral density filter.

It is best to have a few different strengths of neutral density filters. A 10-stop filter is a must, and from there I recommend adding a 3-stop and a 6-stop filter. In a pinch, remember that polarizing filters typically reduce the amount of light reaching the camera by two stops, so you can use a polarizer as well.

#2 Controlling Shutter Speed

Coastal pictures are all about controlling the shutter speed, and you will usually find yourself trying to slow down the shutter speed. If you are shooting in one of the automatic modes, this is a good opportunity for you to step up Manual (M) mode. Just set the shutter speed where you want it, then if you can get the proper exposure by changing the aperture settings, great. But if not, use your neutral density filter to cut down on amount of light entering the camera.

This is also a rare instance where you might consider Shutter Priority (Tv or S) mode. Once you set the shutter speed, the camera will set the aperture for you. Of course, you could also use Aperture Priority (Av) mode and set the aperture with an eye toward where the camera is setting the shutter speed.

When you get to the coast, take a few test shots, Keep an eye on the histogram to make sure your exposure settings work for the mood you are trying to create.

#3 Creating Flat Seas with Extremely Long Shutter Speeds (at least 10 seconds)

Most of my favorite seascapes were taken at shutter speeds of 10 seconds or more (sometimes a lot more). Under calm conditions this adds a sense of serenity to the seascape. Under other conditions the slow shutter speed can add some drama to the scene.

To accomplish this effect, you are probably going to need to use the 10-stop neutral density filter. If you are set up for a proper exposure before you put the filter on the lens, you will need to add 10 full stops of light to get the proper exposure once the lens is on the camera. If your camera is set up to adjust in 1/3-stop increments, that will mean 30 clicks (of your dial) of additional light.

This filter is so powerful that it leads to some challenges. You are going to need to focus and set your exposure before you put the filter on the camera. Once you put the filter on, you will not be able to see anything or focus. A great process for these long exposures is this article: Step-by-step Guide to Long Exposure Photography

In addition, keep in mind that the exposure will be quite long and the camera will need to be very stable. If you are on sand or other unstable surface, be sure to jam the legs deep into the sand to make it as stable as possible. If you are near the water, let a wave or two touch the tripod’s feet before shooting because the first wave will shift the tripod a little bit.

#4 Ocean Trails: Long shutter speeds (2-8 seconds)

Another great way to capture the sea is with a long shutter speed of at least a few seconds, but not so long as to blur everything out. The advantage of the speed is that it gives the viewer an idea of the rhythm, or currents, of the ocean. This range of shutter speed will often show trails in the ocean and give a general sense of the location of the waves.

To capture this look, the shutter speed will ordinarily be between two seconds and eight seconds. That also means a neutral density filter, but often not the 10-stop filter. If you have a 3-stop or 6-stop density filter, those usually work best in this situation, depending on the amount of light available.

#5 Motion and Power: Moderate shutter speeds (1/8 – 1/2 second)

Sometimes you want the viewer to see the actual wave. It still helps to have a little motion to the wave though. This will convey both a sense of motion and give a sense of the power.

To accomplish this, you will typically need to slow the shutter speed down just a little bit. You will find the best shutter speeds for this range are between 1/8th and 1/2 of a second. At these speeds, you can still clearly see the waves, but the slower shutter speed takes the jagged edges off of them.

While you will still need a tripod at these shutter speeds (they are too slow to hand-hold your camera and get sharp images), you can often get away without using a neutral density filter by stopping down the aperture.

#6 Pure Power: Fast shutter speeds (1/500 and up)

Finally, there are days when the ocean is very active where you will want to stop the motion and really capture the power of the sea. A great way to do that is with a fast shutter speed. Speeds of 1/500 of a second and faster work best.

The good news here is that you will not need to use a neutral density filter. You can also ditch the tripod and just hand-hold your camera. These shots offer maximum flexibility and mobility.

A fun thing to do is try to time the wave at it crashes into a rock or the surf. This means a lot of trial and error, but when you hit one, the results can be spectacular.
#7 Before You Go

Remember that the sea coast is a harsh and unforgiving environment. Salt water and electronics do not mix very well, and just the spray of the ocean can lead to serious camera problems (which, unfortunately, I have experienced firsthand). In addition, the terrain can be slippery and treacherous. If you are not careful, you can also find yourself stranded on some rocks in a rising tide (learned this one the hard way too, I’m afraid).

But if you are careful about what you are doing, there is no better place to be than on the coast at dawn or sunset. So get out there and give it a try, and if you have questions or need additional information just use the comments below.
