Repeated land scams in Haryana show Sonia Gandhi doesn’t care for law

34 of the 44 beneficiaries of the Haryana Urban Development Authority’s (HUDA) direct allotment scheme, that dates back to 1981, gave their addresses New Delhi’s 24, Akbar Road – which is Congress headquarters – and 10 Janpath- official residence of Sonia Gandhi, says an Indian Express report. This reflects a certain degree of disrespect for rules and regulations by the Gandhi when it comes to keeping their own people happy.

The allotments of residential plots were made in Gurgaon and Faridabad during 1980′s and 1990s when Congress’s Bhajan Lal was the Chief Minister of the State. Incidentally he held office twice, his first term was from June 28, 1979 to July 5, 1985, and his second term from July 23, 1991 to May 11, 1996. Suspicion gains ground with the fact that over 30 people, having same address managed to get plots under a particular scheme, and it didn’t draw nobody’s attention? This clearly explains that it was a case of political interference for benefiting a particular section.

It is a widely known fact that the Congress is controlled by the Gandhis and nothing happens without any consent or approval from 10 Janpath.

These allegations get further reinforced by the fact that the present Bhupinder Hooda-led Haryana Government had made special concessions for Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra.

This nexus between Haryana Government-Robert Vadra came to light after the sensational expose by whistleblower IAS officer Ashok Khemka ordered cancellation of the mutation of the sale deed of over 3 acres of land in Gurgaon’s Shikopur village in October 2012. Vadra’s Sky Light Hospitality had entered into the sale agreement with realty giant DLF for the sale of the land.

Khemka who is paying the price for exposing Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law claimed that the scam of this magnitude took place in between 2005 and 2012.

Similarly in Rajasthan under Gehlot-led Congress Government, Damaad Vadra was facilitated in dubious mega land deals. Vadra and his companies openly violated the Land Ceiling Act in Rajasthan which was ignored by the then Chief Minister despite repeated complaints from various agencies and activists. He made huge profit by selling the same land at premium rates bought at throw-away prices that led to loss of crores to the State exchequer.

The extent of freedom Damaad of the Gandhi family enjoyed could be evident from the fact that he has reportedly not filed mandatory annual returns or financial statements of his 13 companies with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs since 2011, when for the first time his dubious land deals had surfaced.

Recently, it came to light that as a parting gift to its Damaad UPA Government approved prime real estate worth Rs 10,000 crore (23 acres of land) at a distance of 3.5 km from Parliament for creation of a high-end residential complex.

Congress’s credibility, over the years, has depleted due to the one-upmanship of the family whose sole objective has been to keep its own vested interests intact come what may. Jeep scam and Mundhra scam under Nehru, Bofors scam and Fairfax scam during Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership and a series of scams under PV Narsimha Rao Government were all result of Congress’s ever increasing greed.

In coming years, this very property of the Congress infected its allies too and seeped into the very veins of the UPA Government of which Congress had the maximum say. Drunk into power both Congress and its allies corroded the very foundation of the democracy through rampant corruption and propagating dynastic politics.

In these six decades of its rule Congress’s greed to fill its own coffers threw the nation into utter darkness. Soaring inflation, lower GDP growth, ever increasing crimes against women, policy paralysis and degradation of India’s diplomatic relations are gifts of the Congress-ruled UPA in the past one decade. India’s growth story faced a major roadblock because 10 Janpath, the real brains behind UPA 1 & 2, never paid its attention in this direction. All it cared was filling Damaad’s coffers and projecting the ‘son’ as party’s face.
