ISI agent held in Chennai ahead of train blasts

A Sri Lankan national, believed to be an ISI agent, was arrested in Chennai on Tuesday for his suspected links with Indian terror modules.
Mohamed Zahir Hussain (37), suspected to be an accomplice of a Colombo-based ISI operative, was apprehended after a raid at an undisclosed location on Tuesday following intelligence inputs.
Hussain’s arrest came just two days before the twin blasts at the Chennai central railway station here, in which at least one person has been killed.
Some counterfeit currency and incriminating documents were also seized from him.
He was produced before a magistrate on Tuesday night and remanded to judicial custody.
Hussain during interrogation revealed that he had visited Tamil Nadu several times in the recent past. He also reportedly claimed he was a textile merchant who visited India for “bonafide” purposes, police sources said.
However, his visits to certain locations and possession of “some communication gadgets and photographs” raised the suspicion of investigators. Officials are probing if he had surveyed vital installations and places of public congregation in Tamil Nadu with malafide intentions.
A case has been registered against Hussain under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections of the IPC.
